Always Forward - Song Meanings

  1. Thy Kingdom Come
This is a missionary battle cry — for anyone with that missionary zeal to expand Christ's kingdom, right here on Earth.
  2. Satisfied
Chasing a thousand pursuits, I will always find an empty spot somewhere in my heart, longing to be satisfied, longing to experience the fulfillment we will only find in Heaven.
  3. Future Full of Hope
This song expresses the consolation of Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe; plans to give you a future full of hope."
  4. Unchanging
I'm not a rock; I waver all the time and change my mind — I'm totally unpredictable! But the Lord is steady, unchanging... "the Lord is an eternal Rock." (Isaiah 26:4) How I want to be like him!
  5. Save the Family
Most of the world's problems are a larger result of a much "smaller" problem — the breakdown of the family. So, if you want to save the world, save the family.
  6. Jesus, Redeem Me (with Prepare the Way)
Inspired by Psalm 51, this song is about orienting my gaze away from myself and toward Jesus. Especially as sinners, we're not much to look at. But He is fidelity, strength, forgiveness, love!
  7. Heaven (Satisfied Reprise)
Finally, the place of total fulfillment. Heaven, make haste to help me.
  8. Time & Eternity
We all know about the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). But do you consider time a talent, a gift? Maybe, just maybe, there's a correlation between how we spend our time on Earth and how we'll spend eternity...
  9. Something's Gonna Come
This was a break-up song. Man, that was hard! Somehow, though, God kept me optimistic and hopeful that somewhere around the corner, something was waiting for me. And the payoff was huge, praise God!
  10. Take Me
After reading "The Good News about Sex and Marriage" by Christopher West, I wrote this song for my future wife. What I learned is that love is about self-donation.
  11. Keep Your Lamplight Burning
After reading the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13), I was suddenly struck by the realization that Christ could come at any moment. Will I be prepared?
  12. Following His Lead
This song is a fun rendition of Psalm 23. If the Lord is our shepherd, then we are his sheep. What joy is there greater than following the leader? I've got everything I need!
  13. Every Thought and Every Word
Do you ever feel unimportant? There are so many people, how could God love me individually? Well, the words of Jeremiah 1:5 hit home for me: "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you."
  14. Press On
A fitting theme for the last song on the album, this song is about perseverance, moving "always forward", continuing "my pursuit toward the goal, the price of God's upward calling, in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:12-14). God be with you.
